Reclaiming

Middle School

With over two decades of building upon the brilliance and turning around the lives of countless young people, the High School for Recording Arts (HSRA) is partnering with GOOD TROUBLE to launch a middle school for the 2025-2026 school year in St. Paul, MN. Let's get the word out and reclaim middle school!

About HSRA

HSRA began as a pilot program developed by Studio 4 Enterprises in December 1996. After a recording career with the recording artist legend, Prince, David T.C. Ellis started Studio 4 as a recording production studio. Eventually, youth from the community started showing up to David’s studio exhibiting a strong interest in recording their music and learning about the business yet they were  no longer in school. David soon had the idea to build an educational pilot program recognizing the need to address the push out/kick out (so-called “drop out”) crisis in his community that was built on the passion and interests of the young people he was engaging. Enrollment in the program, which began with fifteen learners, grew quickly through word of mouth.

"HSRA transformed my artistry into activism."
